Atul Gawande, MD, MPH is a surgeon, a teacher and a writer, and he holds distinguished positions in all three roles. He is the author of two books BETTER: A SURGEON’S NOTES ON PERFORMANCE and COMPLICATIONS: A SURGEON’S NOTES ON AN IMPERFECT SCIENCE and was a recipient of the distinguished MacArthur fellowship “genius’ award in 2006 for his writing. Dr. Gawande is the director of the WHO’s Global Challenge for Safer Surgical Care. He is a surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and an associate professor at Harvard’s Schools of Medicine and Public Health.
