Can I submit more than one LOI?
Yes. However, if more than one LOI is approved you will only be able to submit one application.
What are the eligibility requirements of the senior investigator?
To be eligible to apply as a Senior Investigator the researcher must hold an academic appointment at a university in Connecticut in one of these categories:
Tenured associate or full professor position or
Rank of professor with no term limit or
Clinical faculty member at associate or full professor level with 6 or more years of continuous funded extramural research with a commensurate record of publications and an institutional commitment that extends through the 4 year period of the grant
Do team members have to be at any particular career stage?
No. Team members may be from any academic or non-academic position. In fact, some or all could be tenured senior investigators similar to the team leader. What is important to keep in mind is that team members must contribute essential and complementary expertise.
Are there restrictions on the academic discipline of the senior investigator that applies?
No. We hope to receive applications from a broad spectrum of research disciplines including, but not limited to, medicine, nursing, public health, and public policy.
Can I apply if I am a former Donaghue grantee?
Yes. However, you cannot concurrently be a PI on more than one Donaghue program.
I am a senior researcher from an organization that is not based in an academic institution. Can I apply as the senior investigator?
No. At this point (the first year of a new program) we are not making exceptions from the established guidelines.
Can one of the team members be from a for-profit company?
Yes. The Foundation views having a member of the team that is experienced in business and/or developing new products and services as reasonable given particular research interests. Can the money be used to pay salaries?
Grant funds may be used to support the senior investigator’s salary (consistent with the applicant institution’s policy), co-investigator’s salaries, project staff salaries, employee benefits, laboratory and data processing supplies, modest publication costs, and other direct expenses including equipment and patient care expenses when they are essential or appropriate for achieving the goals of the program.
